If you’ve found yourself asking “Why is my computer so slow?”, you’re not alone. Slow computers are one of the most common reasons people search for computer repair near me. The good news? Many performance issues have clear causes — and some are easy to fix.

In this guide, we’ll break down the 7 most common reasons computers slow down, what you can do about them, and when it’s time to call a professional computer repair service in Colorado Springs, Colorado

1. Too Many Startup Programs

One of the biggest reasons a computer runs slow is having too many programs launching at startup. These programs use memory and processing power before you even open a browser.

Signs this is the issue:

Computer takes a long time to boot

Fans run loudly right after startup

What you can do:

Disable unnecessary startup apps

Uninstall software you no longer use

If startup optimization doesn’t help, a professional tune‑up can dramatically improve performance.

2. Not Enough RAM or an Old Hard Drive

Older computers often struggle because they don’t have enough memory (RAM) or still use a traditional hard drive (HDD).

Common symptoms:

Freezing when multitasking

Slow file opening

Long loading times

Best fix:

Upgrade to an SSD (solid‑state drive)

Increase RAM if supported

These upgrades are affordable and can make a computer feel brand new.

3. Malware, Viruses, or Spyware

Malicious software runs silently in the background, stealing resources and slowing your system.

Warning signs:

Random pop‑ups

Browser redirects

Extremely slow internet browsing

If you suspect malware, professional virus removal services in Colorado Springs are the safest way to clean your system without risking data loss.

4. Outdated Software or Operating System

Running outdated software can cause compatibility issues and performance bottlenecks.

Fixes to try:

Install OS updates

Update drivers

Remove unsupported software

Keeping your system updated also improves security and stability.

5. Overheating and Dust Buildup

Dust inside your computer can block airflow, causing overheating. When a system overheats, it automatically slows down to prevent damage.

Signs of overheating:

Laptop feels hot to the touch

Sudden shutdowns

Loud fan noise

A professional internal cleaning can restore proper cooling and prevent long‑term hardware damage.

6. Too Many Browser Tabs and Extensions

Modern browsers are resource‑heavy. Running dozens of tabs or extensions can slow even newer computers.

Quick tips:

Close unused tabs

Remove unnecessary extensions

Restart your browser regularly

7. Aging Hardware

If your computer is more than 6–8 years old, slow performance may simply be a sign of aging components.

A technician can help you decide whether:

A repair or upgrade makes sense

Or if replacing the computer is more cost‑effective

When Should You Call a Computer Repair Professional?

You should contact a professional if:

Your computer is painfully slow despite basic fixes

You suspect malware or data security issues

You want to upgrade hardware safely

You rely on your computer for work or school

At Husky Bros IT Services, we provide fast, reliable computer repair in Colorado Springs, Colorado, including:

PC & laptop repair

Virus and malware removal

SSD and RAM upgrades

Performance tune‑ups

Data protection and backups

📞 Get Your Computer Running Fast Again

Don’t waste time fighting a slow computer. If you have ever had issues creating that formula to do what you need I think I have found the right tool for you. If you go to gptexcel.uk this website works by you telling it what kind of formula you are trying to create. Then you select if you want that formula for either Excel or for Google Sheets and it will create it for you. After it creates the formula for you all you need to do is copy it from the page and paste it into your spreadsheet.

It even has a section that will explain what the formula does and how they came up with it. I hope this helps with any spreadsheets you need to work on in the future.

If for some reason you find this link not working please let us know so we can either remove it or update it. Below is a website that I sometimes use when I need help finding that just right template, instead of using just a plain one or reusing the old built-in ones repeatedly.

The name of the Site is Slides Carnival. The good thing is this site has templates for both Powerpoint slides and was as Google slides themes. Their templates can be used for personal presentations or business presentations. They range from Playful to Formal. But the best part is they are 100% free. They use the Creative Commons License Attribution 4.0 International. This means that you can use them for personal or even commercial purposes as long as you keep the credit to SlidesCarnival.

Options for help

They have a great section of FAQs to help you if you have any issues getting their templates to work. As well as each template has its own section of FAQs as well to help you better use each individual template. You can also leave any comments on the template you choose to download. There is no live support that I have seen or had to use but the team is pretty responsive to any questions that I have had in the past. They also have a youtube channel that has plenty of videos to help you along the way. You can also email them or post a comment asking for help. There is also a Facebook page for help as well.

If for some reason you find this link not working please let us know so we can either remove it or update it. Desktop placement is one important variable. Keeping your desktop on the floor allows for dust, hair, skin cells, and carpet particles to get inside easier. If you keep your desktop above the floor—say, on your desk—particles are less prone to getting inside.

If you’re the owner of a pet that sheds, you might want to clean your desktop more often. The inside of your desktop is just as susceptible to fur-clogging fans and other areas of your desktop.

In short, if you keep your desktop off the floor, don’t smoke, and don’t have shedding pets, you can probably get away with cleaning your desktop once per year. If any of those things do pertain to you, you might want to clean your desktop every 6, or even 3, months. And, as always, if your desktop starts getting hotter than usual, open it up to check for any dust or hair buildup and then clean it.

How often should I clean my laptop?

If you’ve had your laptop for a year or two, it may be full of dust. Dust clogs fans, vents, and heat sinks, preventing your PC from cooling down properly. You can remove a good amount of this dust, even if you can’t open your laptop.

Dust build-up can prevent a PC from cooling down properly, and that heat can even cause hardware damage. Your laptop’s fans may also run at full blast, draining your battery. Your laptop may even reduce its performance to stay cool.

But how often you need to perform cleaning again all depends on the environment that you keep your laptop in. So the same kinds of rules will apply as with the desktop cleaning.

Game Consoles

One of the most forgotten devices is our game consoles. Gaming consoles have come a long way since the games consoles of old like the atria or the NES. They are just as powerful as some of the best gaming desktops. So they two need to have a could cleaning schedule to help them last long enough till the next version comes out. So be sure to show them some love with a good cleaning too.

The team at Husky Bros IT Services can complete any of these tasks for you just click here to book an appointment now.
